Two New Year’s pictures from Takahiro Arai’s twitter!

Quality time with my kanji dictionary shed no light on what Enjolras’ flag says in the top picture (something something new year), but the character on his hakama is that for the Year of the Monkey, which 2016 is according to the zodiac used in China and Japan. The accompanying tweet translates as, “Happy New Year~ Working hard and heading towards the Les Mis manga climax! Please continue to look upon me favorably this year!”

The bottom picture has New Year’s wishes in French, accompanied by Grantaire dressed as a sheep (for 2015, Year of the Sheep), and Enjolras as a monkey (2016=Year of the Monkey). The accompanying tweet, roughly translated, is, “Finally [Grantaire’s?*] physical condition and recovery have come, and in the new year, the detox shows signs of completion. Truly, thank you everyone for reading Les Mis manga this year! Have a good New Year!”

*Odds are next chapter or, at the latest, the one following that will have the end of the barricades, so Grantaire is nearing the end of his drunken slumber in the Corinthe. However, Japanese doesn’t require sentence subjects, so it’s not 100% clear.
