Do you want to care for a cat?

aporeticelenchus:

dontaskgrantaire:

My good interlocutor, I barely want to care for myself. Quis curabit ipsum curatorem? Besides, it is against nature for the Cynic to mingle with the feline. Let the dog keep to his kind.

For the record, this is a BALD-FACED LIE

GRANTAIRE LOVES CATS AND CATS, IMPROBABLY, LOVE GRANTAIRE.

Perhaps they sense that he too really just wants to nap all day while people he loves pet him.

Grantaire doesn’t own any cats because he is terrrrrrified of responsibility, but he is an adoring cat uncle to other people’s cats. He thinks he’s subtle and sneaky about it. He really really isn’t.

(”Quis curabit ipsum curatorem” is a parody of “Quis custodiet ipsos custodes” – “who will watch the guards themselves?” or “Who watches the watchmen?” It means something like “Who will care for the caretaker himself?” The word “cynic” is directly derived from the Greek word for dog, which the old Cynics were often called.)
