I never take the original commentary off a post, but every time I see this one go around and I add this at the bottom, I worry that people won’t scroll all the way down to read the addition. (Sorry to keep stepping on your post, OP.)
TUMBLR DOES NOT DO THIS ANYMORE.

“How do I report a concern for a blogger’s safety?
Tumblr cares deeply about the members of our community, we do not have
the trained medical professionals or other resources necessary to
directly respond to safety-threatening emergencies. If you are concerned
for the safety of a Tumblr user, please contact an appropriate law
enforcement official or other appropriate government resource as soon as
possible. You can also make use of our list of counseling and prevention resources for self-harm issues.”
Now, there is a really impressive list of resources at the counseling and prevention resources link, but they still recommend speaking to a professional:
“Counseling and Prevention Resources
you having a tough time? If you are struggling with an eating disorder,
depression, self harm, suicidal thoughts, or just need to talk to
someone, please reach out to counselors at one of the services listed
below. They are ready to help and want to hear from you.
If you are, or someone you know is, in immediate danger, please call a
local emergency telephone number or go immediately to the nearest
So, by all means, keep sharing this post for the available resources (they really do look impressive!), but please don’t go into that help section expecting that if you tell tumblr staff about a user who has threatened suicide that they will act. THEY WILL NOT.
That is all.
