the #angst with a happy ending tag is now true
Courfeyrac worries he isn’t enough for Feuilly. Feuilly worries he isn’t doing enough.
Together, they work things out.
I’m writing this for Les Mis Rare Pairs Week because apparently that’s the kick in the pants I needed to actually write something the ship I’ve loved for months and months. It’s going to be 3 chapters but since it’s looking like I won’t finish it before the week is over, I figured I should at least post the first one today. Enjoy–and sorry about the angst, i swear it actually gets resolved in this one!
those who barely missed becoming historic: courfeyrac
They were pulling apart a charter that had just been granted. Combeferre was limply defending it. Courfeyrac was energetically demolishing it. “We must never enlighten the people with false daylight. No! No charter!” Two logs were crackling in the fireplace and Courfeyrac could not resist. He crumpled the Charter in his hand and tossed it into the fire.
the first thing that changes when they realize they have feelings for the
They both TOTALLY LOSE THEIR CHILL. Neither of them knows
how to deal with serious feelings; we see Marius’ disaster feelings with
Cosette in canon, and I tend to think that Courfeyrac’s breezy devil-may-care
attitude is at least partly defense again the fact that emotions are
terrifying. So both of them just turn super awkward and weird around each
other, and each one of them is so into his own awkwardness and trying to hide
everything that neither notices how weird the other is being.
tells their family/friends about their relationship first?
doesn’t actually talk to his family, and all his friends are Courfeyrac’s
friends. Courfeyrac’s friends, however, are a bunch of busybody gossips it’s
impossible to keep anything from for long.
20.What do their family/friends think of their relationship?
doesn’t care so long as Marius doesn’t plan to marry him. He’s all for having
as many affairs as possible, even if some of them are with men. Theodule flirts
shamelessly with Courfeyrac even after finding out he’s taken, much to Marius
continual annoyance. His aunt is scandalized, but she was already perpetually scandalized by Marius’ existence so nothing much is new.
Amis as a collective entity are mildly bemused but supportive. Sure, date the
overly enthusiastic Bonapartist! We all liked him. Just please get him some
less embarrassing politics along the way.
great things about enjolras knowing both of his best friends are hopelessly in love with each other yet for some reason refuse to admit it to the other one and live happily ever after:
- combeferre leaving the room and enjolras heaving an immediate sigh because he can feel the five minute long stream of high pitched whining noises about to come from courf before courf can even open his mouth
- the daily routine of ferre saying “he’s never going to feel the same way” and enjolras’ deadpan reply of “right. of course. you’re only his favorite person on the planet. it’s not like he can’t sleep without hearing you say goodnight or anything. it’s not like he refuses to watch certain movies when you’re out of town because they’re ‘your thing’. it’s not like he calls you ‘mi cariño’ literally all the time. no yeah. you’re right. he practically hates you.” and cue ferre staring at him for ten minutes straight. every. single. day.
- enjolras resorting to drastic seasonal measures when christmas rolls around by physically attempting to shove ferre and courf together beneath the mistletoe
- enjolras coming home to find courf and ferre cuddled up together on the couch or laughing way too hard over some stupid video game or cooking and half dancing together while making dinner in the kitchen and remembering why it is he hates them so much for being so blind so so so so terribly, devastatingly blind and he’s not seventeen magazine why can’t they just get it together on their own
So we’re going to be accepting submissions and following the tag /courferre week same as last year. We’re most likely doing themes so if you have any ideas for any send them our way!
Courferre week is August 7-13th this year. DONT MISS OUT!
I’m not writing anything at the moment, so Les Mis is as good as any! I’m. So rusty, though, what a throwback this fandom is.
Courfeyrac pays him no heed, throwing clothes into a satchel with ill-disguised rage. He shoves past Enjolras to his desk, sweeping all the papers into the bag with one fell swoop.
If Enjolras couldn’t already tell that something was very, very wrong, the fact that Courfeyrac doesn’t seem to care about the fact that ink is rapidly spreading all over his favorite linen shirt, staining the insides of his bag.
“Go away, Enjolras,” Courfeyrac snaps. “I don’t have time for revolutionary business.” He spins around, snatches an errant sheaf of papers off the floor and shoves it into Enjolras’s chest, making him stumble backwards. “Here. Your maps.”
“Courfeyrac, stop.” Enjolras snaps his arm forward before Courfeyrac can rush off again. “Tell me what’s happened.”
Courfeyrac is livid, his normally sunny face twisted into a snarl. “You don’t care,” he hisses. “You don’t care, nobody cares, just leave.”
“No.” He tightens the fingers around Courfeyrac’s list.
“Do you honestly think I care for nothing but politics?” Enjolras asks quietly. “That I’d do anything for my beloved Patria and nothing at all for my beloved friend?”
Courfeyrac sags in his grip, and Enjolras leads him to sink into the chaise, wordless. He waits.
“It’s my family,” Courfeyrac whispers, licking his dry lips. “There’s trouble.”
“You have to leave.”
Courfeyrac nods. “I’m sorry.”
“Well.” Enjolras looks at him solemnly. “I will do my best to throw documents into the fireplace in a fit of dramatics while you are gone.”
Courfeyrac bursts into laughter, and the room brims with sunshine.
ok but can we please talk about combeferre with a beard for a moment
combeferre, clean-cut and professional combeferre, who has been so busy with his shifts at the hospital that he has had no time to shave so he walks into the musain for the next meeting, apologizing for being late and enjolras stops talking immediately. all of les amis turn and look at him. jaws drop. there is not a sound to be made
and finally courfeyrac just curses and stands up like “I GIVE UP. YOU LOOK HOT EVEN WHEN YOU HAVEN’T SHOWERED OR SHAVED IN THREE DAYS. I GIVE UP” and walks right out
and combeferre just stands there horrifically confused until grantaire breaks the silence “eh, it’s alright”
