Follow You, Follow Me (103393 words) — Chapter 19

As Enjolras moved, Grantaire got up from the couch and sat on the coffee table.  By the time Enjolras got himself into a sitting position, words were coming more easily, but his voice, when it emerged, was rough, like he’d smoked a few too many cigarettes.  “You came.”

Another soft smile.  “What are friends for?”

“Is that what we are?”

Grantaire’s smile fell.

March 26, 2016: It’s been TWO DAYS SHY OF A YEAR.  *hangs head in shame*  But I’m about to have a super, super awful day, and for some reason that gave me the impetus I needed to finally finish this chapter.  I’m so, so sorry for the wait.  But I appreciate the patience of every single one of you who’s still following this story.

…no pun intended.  ^_~

“A wolf pack: the first 3 are the old or sick, they give the pace to the entire pack. If it was the other way round, they would be left behind, losing contact with the pack. In case of an ambush they would be sacrificed. Then come 5 strong ones, the front line. In the center are the rest of the pack members, then the 5 strongest following. Last is alone, the alpha. He controls everything from the rear. In that position he can see everything, decide the direction. He sees all of the pack. The pack moves according to the elders pace and help each other, watch each other.”

this is the coolest thing i’ve read on tumblr wow

I hate to be the one to burst everyone’s bubble, but… this isn’t an accurate caption.  The original picture “was taken by Chadden Hunter and featured in the BBC documentary Frozen Planet in 2011.”  (From the Snopes article.)  Also, the original caption on the photo (stating that this pack was led by an alpha female) isn’t even right.  The whole idea of an “alpha wolf” is much contested in scientific circles these days.  The one part of the original caption that Snopes does seem to think is true is the idea that the lead wolf in this line is one of the stronger ones and is breaking trail for everyone behind them to help them conserve energy.  Which is still pretty great if you ask me.  ^_^
