I request permission to go after him.

Jim, you’re not actually going after this guy, are you?

#seriously bones’s hand placement is killing me   #it’s so deliberate   #like he’s had three years to perfect the art of keeping jim still for two seconds in the most efficient way possible   #hand wedged under his arm strategically thumb ready to attack a pressure point that made jim yelp the first time  #except now jim’s like conditioned   #bones barely has to touch him and jim just stops and leans into it  #i hate this

I, too, wish to draw attention to the hold McCoy has on Jim in that top right hand gif there, but not from any ship-related reasons. That, ladies and gentlemen, is an example of med win

You’re right, previous tagger, that’s the best place to hold Jim to get him to be still. It’s how you hold anyone who isn’t steady on their feet, or needs guidance, or that you as a medical person (be it doctor or nurse) need to control the movements of just a little bit. If you’re standing in front of them and you need to give them some support or exert some control over their movements, that is exactly how you hold a patient so that you can do that without hurting them.

Normally whenever anything or anyone medical is involved in a show or film, there are inevitably horrendous inaccuracies that really ruin it for me. But this? This is a tiny detail, the tiniest of tiny details, and knowingly or not it is one hundred percent accurate, and I want to give Karl a medal for it.

‘Star Trek Beyond’ confirms that Hikaru Sulu is gay

During a promotional event in Australia, actor John Cho confirmed that beloved Star Trek character Hikaru Sulu is gay. According to Cho, writer Simon Pegg and director Justin Lin decided to make Sulu canonically gay in the upcoming movie, Star Trek Beyond. The reason why will warm your emotionless, Vulcan heart.

Sulu was originally played by George Takei, who in later life has become a prominent activist forLGBT rights. In a tribute to his ongoing legacy as an icon of the Star Trek franchise, Star Trek Beyond writer Simon Pegg and director Justin Lin decided make Sulu canonically gay in the upcoming movie.

“I liked [Pegg and Lin’s] approach, which was not to make a big thing out of it, which is where I hope we are going as a species, to not politicize one’s personal orientations,” Cho said.

Can we just take a long moment to appreciate John Cho providing more shade than a tree on a sunny day?

And how he takes every opportunity he can to talk about Hollywood racism and what it means to PoC, and specifically Asian and Asian-American folk, to see non-stereotyped representation of self onscreen?

I hope one day we can hear him speak (more) openly about the STID whitewashing.”  – Trollny-Stark

And then there’s this:

“I’m not J.J. Abrams, who’s ultimately responsible. I’m just his Asian puppet. Which, by the way, is also the title of my autobiography.”

John Cho is throwing so much shade he should be an eclipse. I read in the #John Cho Tumblr tag that someone called him a ‘Creature of Majestic Shade’ and nearly fell out of my chair laughing. Incoming John Cho ‘Deal with It’ gif with dropping sunglasses. Tumblr please oblige me.

…and now I’m a John Cho Stan.

Don’t forget: “I think what I liked about it as a kid is that it was overtly intellectual.” (x) when asked what he liked about Star Trek. – after JJ Abrams had been quoted saying “Star Trek wasn’t for me as a kid and not because I was cool. It just felt too intellectual and talky.” (x)

and never forget:

which he said while they were still lying about it

reminder that james t kirk

  • was a walking stack of books during his academy days
  • was way too immersed in his studies until he fell head over heels for a woman who he almost married
  • plays 3d chess
  • likes classic earth literature to the point where bones got him antique reading glasses
  • is basically on good terms with all his exes that we know
  • puts his crew and his ship before his love life
  • literally the only times you see him use physical seduction on female characters is when a mission or lives are at stake, with most women he is completely respectful and on the rare occasion you see him trying to woo someone in sincerity it’s rather gentle courtship

reminder that james t kirk is a giant cute nerd who happens to be a competent captain and total hottie who loves a good fight but is also super sneaky when he needs to be and i just wish the reboot universe kirk was allowed to grow and develop in ways that showed he was still fundamentally this character instead of every troubled young man trope ever

What Roddenberry said: Starfleet is not a military organisation.
What JJ Abrams (together with most subsequent Star Trek writers) heard: Starfleet is definitely a military organisation.
What Roddenberry said: The Federation operates on a moneyless economic model.
What JJ Abrams heard: The Federation operates on a capitalist economic model.
What Roddenberry said: The Federation is a futuristic, post-scarcity utopia with no poverty or bigotry.
What JJ Abrams heard: The Federation is the United States of America in space.
