berning-to-philly-2016:

@berniesrevolution can you signal boost?

OK, guys, this is kind of true, but also really misleading.  Here’s what Snopes has to say about it: Snopes article.

The upshot: These are laws and practices that are ALREADY IN PLACE and have been for years.  New York State does not allow passive electioneering, which is what “wearing Bernie gear to the polls” falls under.  And they aren’t cutting polling hours.  It’s just that some counties (it seems like they’re mostly in upstate and western NY?) have shorter polling hours for primaries than they do for general elections.

Snopes:

“There were grains of truth to the rumors circulating among voters ahead
of New York’s primaries. Voters were not allowed to engage in “passive
electioneering” via shirts, hats, or buttons within 100 feet of a
polling place on election Day. However, no one would lose the right to
vote, and the law was typically described as “rarely enforced.” A voter
might be asked to turn their shirt inside out or leave a hat in the car,
but would not be denied at the voting booth. Also, it was false that
any counties had primary hours cut; the law dictating a shorter voting
window throughout the state of New York was in effect before 1982, and
had nothing to do with the 2016 primaries.“

Of course, if someone at a polling place chooses to be an asshole, they can be an asshole, but that’s a whole other story.

ahh if you’re still taking more prompts – Courfeyrac and Feuilly (obv), ♠ – one character adjusting the other’s jewelry/neck tie/ etc.?

eirenical:

I was having a rotten day (still am), so I thought maybe tackling one of these might put me in a better mood?

Anyway, this ficlet lives in the future of my Fais de Beaux Rêves series.  You don’t need to have read it to understand what’s going on, you just need to know this: Feuilly has a foster sister (Tania), who he is still close to and he and (an aro/ace) Courfeyrac have a lovely little queerplatonic relationship going on.  Enjoy?  ^_^

Feuilly reached up to pull at his bow tie.  He was pretty sure that the knot was supposed to be at the base of his throat, but given what a difficult time he was having swallowing around it, it felt like it was in his throat, instead.  He’d never worn a bow tie before, couldn’t have imagined a circumstance in his life that would have required it, but here he was.  In a bow tie.  And a tux.  With a chapel full of people just outside the doors and absolutely *certain* that he was going to royally fuck up.

Just as Feuilly was reaching up to pull on the bowtie, yet again, another’s hand reached out and covered his own before gently pulling it away.  A soft “tsk, tsk” noise came from somewhere over his right shoulder.  A moment later that other hand returned with its twin and reached up to loosen the bow tie just enough so that Feuilly could breathe, then proceeded to smooth the lay of his shirt and the lapels of his coat.

AW.  I’m glad you still enjoy them!  ^_^  I love the relationship they have in this universe, too.  I always really enjoy writing them.  I love envisioning that they can have a happily ever after, even if it doesn’t look like everyone else’s happily ever after, you know?  ^_^

Does the brick ever mention what caused Joly to have a bad leg?

just-french-me-up:

In my memories, it just mentions that he walks with a cane but I don’t remember Hugo giving a reason. I wouldn’t call it certainty though, maybe something slipped my mind :3

From memory the only thing that’s said is that Joly has a cane, and from there people have extrapolated and headcanoned. Since canes were actually fashion at the time probably quite a few of the Amis also had canes (Courfeyrac for example, who in fact I think has a sword cane at the barricade) so it’s not 100% on whether Joly even has a bad leg that causes him to need it.

@pilferingapples wrote a great post on Joly and his cane in canon-era here though, it might be an interesting read!!

Yep yep, can definitely confirm, there’s no indication of Joly having any particular health problem! But like I say in the linked post , there’s all sorts of physical issues that might get called a disability now (or alternately not interfere enough with a much-reduced walking schedule) that a cane might help with, without it being at all anything people of the time, including Hugo, would comment on. (and not all of those would even be to do with his legs- low stamina, poor balance for any reason, etc etc, there are lots of things that work! And they could be caused by accident or illness or just the roll of the genetic dice.)  So there’s a lot of room for variation within canon, if that’s what you’re wanting to do!

It’s been quite a year!  We’ve had several fandom weeks and exchanges, and I think they’ve gone pretty well.  ^_^  To the best of my knowledge, there are no more weeks scheduled in the calendar, but there are still a few exchanges going on, so I thought I’d post a schedule update and maybe remind people that with a new year fast approaching… maybe it’s time to organize a few more weeks on the calendar?  ^_~  Just a suggestion!

If you know of any exchanges or fandom weeks that are going on that I haven’t heard about, please let me know?

Thank you for keeping up with this!:D

My pleasure!  ^_^  It’s been pretty fun for me, too!

Made a sister journal to this one
today.  Accidentally cut the paper down a little too much, so it ended
up a bit smaller than the first one, but I actually think I like the
dimensions on this one better?  So.  A happy accident.  ^_^  The bottom
three pictures are of the two journals side-by-side.  I really like this
quarter cloth look.  And I actually find the case binding easier to do
than the coptic stitch, which kind of surprised me, tbh?  But yeah.
There you go.  ^_^  These two will probably end up in my Etsy shop once I
decide I can bear to part with them.  ^_~

8 1/2″ long x 5 3/4″ wide x 5/8″ thick; quarter cloth case binding; light-weight bookboard; 120

100% cotton bookcloth cover with ribbon embellishment and bookmark; hand-sewn; bound by hand
